The Canaanite Woman

     Another misconception that misinformed Christians believe is the ancestral background of the supposed Canaanite woman.

Matthew 15:21-28 “Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.”

     Numerous teachers transform passages in Matthew into universal nonsense, as commonly done with Genesis chapters III and IV; however, for this person to descend from literal Canaanitish seedlines is contradictory. Racially cognizant Christians presume that her genetics included Canaanite impurities, although she merely resided inside the Phoenician region, also known as Canaan; likewise, Ruth—an alleged Moabitess—dwelled within Moab’s borders yet was an Israelite or Shemite. Jesus’ disciples sought to send her elsewhere, but the Lord declared unto them He came for the house of Israel; therefore, the Savior permitted her approach since she was a veritable descendant of Jacob-Israel.

Mark 7:25-26 “For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet: The woman was a Greek [G1674], a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.”

G1674. Hellenis hel-lay-nis’ feminine of 1672; a Grecian woman:–Greek.

G1672. Hellen hel’-lane from 1671; a Hellen (Grecian) or inhabitant of Hellas; by extension a Greek-speaking person:– Gentile, Greek.

G1671. Hellas hel-las’ of uncertain affinity; Hellas (or Greece), a country of Europe:–Greece.

Hellas: A name for all lands inhabited by Hellenes, i.e. all of ancient Greece, including the Greek colonies.[1]

     Mark identifies her as Greek by descent from Syro-Phoenicia, and Matthew utilizes the name Canaan to represent the territory she inhabited―geographical locations don’t automatically determine an individual’s race.

     Both Eli James and William Finck are incorrect―many students assume she was a biological Canaanite after absorbing their assorted falsehoods, including Yahwism.

Zechariah 14:21 “Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the Lord of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.”

     Steven’s WordPress Blog intends to expound on their misinterpretations, but for now, this shall suffice.

Revelation 22:14-15 “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”

     Israelites can obtain the status of a dog, sorcerer, whoremonger, murderer, idolater, liar, etc. The Greek (non-Canaanite) mother requested mercy, so something wasn’t right about her; nevertheless, assuming this was a racial issue isn’t accurate. For whatever reason, she was a dog, numbering among the Jacobites whom God divorced for wickedness and covenantal abandonment.
